Artisanal CHOCOLATE BARs
CONCEPT
Focusing more on the packaging, I set out to conceptualize a new line of chocolate bars with in an elegant yet comforting label. Inspired by packaging for artisanal soaps, meats and cheeses, I used craft paper for the outer wrapper. The flavor name and graphic elements are diecut from the craft paper revealing colorful foil that represents the flavor of the chocolate as well as protecting it. The use of color and cutouts from the outer label sets this packaging apart from the many other candy bars on the shelf, inviting the nostalgic, the connoisseur, and the kid in all of us.
MY PROCESS
Conceptualized Flavors, Fonts, Color Palette, & Design
Printed copy onto craft paper
Drew elements and laser diecut them out of craft paper
Airbrush foil to match my selected Pantone Chips ( luckily I had access to a team of Airbrush Artists.)
Wrapped foil and craft paper around chocolate.
WEDDING WINE LABEL
CONCEPT
A personalized gift for the newlywed wine connoisseurs. I wanted to design and comp a label that would make this bottle a memento of their wedding that can be appreciated for years to come, even after the wine is gone. I used craft paper for the label and printed a subtle, non-distracting love poem as a background pattern. I designed the label shape to form a heart shaped “drip” that is cut out from the label. This “drip” also leads your eye right to the couple’s names. I used a bold red foil for the wine information, couple’s name and wedding date. The result- a bride and groom with full glasses of Pinot and huge smiles on their faces.
MY PROCESS
Conceptualized Design, Layout, Color Palette.
Printed copy & background pattern onto craft paper
Drew and laser diecut a template for the dieline
Backed craft paper with twintak and cut the shape using the template
Applied foil presstype onto label ( with the help of a comp artist)
Applied Label onto wine bottle ( also with the help of a comp artist)
COMPS BUILT WHILE WORKING AT GUY CONTI ART & DESIGN, INC.
While working as The Manager of Digital Production and Graphic artist at Guy Conti Art & Design, I worked with members of several departments to create comps. These comps were built to perfection by hand by various members of each department at the comp studio. These comps allowed for the clients to see their designs come to life and have the ability to make iterations to their designs before they hit the stores.
MECHANICAL FOR COLOR PROOFS & PRINT PRODUCTION
PROJECT
Mechanical for ACT® mouth rinse. Mechanicals are used by our client and their printers to mass produce their product label with full confidence that all colors and artwork will look exactly as they expect. This label consists of CMYK, spot colors, metallic silver and white. Printed on hologram substrate, different levels of white were needed to block the hologram in certain areas, making the art opaque. To accomplish this, I reconstructed the file using several spot channels in Photoshop and overprinting layers in Illustrator. Once mechanicals were finalized for each ACT® rinse flavor and size, I output proofs and sent them to the printer with their mechanicals for production.
My Process
Communicate with client about project specifications and expectations
Separate all colors and qradients into several channels
Set Up swatches panel, slug, spec’s and notes into final mechanical file
Print to a proofing device to ensure all colors and artwork are perfect.
FOREVER RED PRODUCT LINE
by Bath & Body Works
PROJECT
Shower Gel, Body Lotion & Fragrance Mist for Forever Red by Bath and Body Works. My client provided digital design files in Illustrator and PDF format as well as color prints. These files spec’d out specific foil colors, opacity levels and spot colors. Color prints were supplied to us for color matching. Each label was to be on a clear substrate. Colors, including white ink for opacity, were printed onto acetate. Airbrush technicians sprayed the bottles, caps, collars and bows with custom mixed paint. Specific areas of the label were airbrushed with glitter. Comp artists mixed the lotion to exactly match the client’s sample and applied gold and red foil presstype to the labels.
My Process
Communicate with client about project expectations and specifications.
Revised artwork to perfectly fit the specific bottle
Create film work for presstype graphics and handoff color swatches and film-work to presstype department
Printed artwork onto acetate, matching all colors to client’s specifications.
